On May 21st, 1951, Westmoreland Community Federal Credit Union was organized in order to provide members with a systematic savings plan and offer credit to members at reasonable rates.
At that time, the membership consisted of employees of the Greensburg Division of the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania in Westmoreland County; and members of their immediate families.
Much like the telecomunications industry, we have experienced a great deal of change over the years. Our field of membership now includes manufacturing, food service, contractors, social service, as well as telecomunications. This increased diversification enables our credit union to flourish during any type of economic cycle.
Because we are a Not-for-Profit, Financial Cooperative, we are jointly owned and controlled by our members. The participants of Westmoreland Community Federal Credit Union continue to pool their savings not for one individual's personal or professional profit, but for all members.
Needs grow and become more complex as times change. But this will not alter our basic mission of returning earnings to our members in the form of higher dividend rates on savings, lower interest rates on loans, and affordable financial services.
